Kootu Curry (Onam Recipes) | Red Gram made Kerala Style

Kootu Curry is a red gram and yam semi dry dish.It is a must have in the Onam Sadya.

This dish has a lovely taste with the jaggery and the wonderful coconut tempering.Yum !

You just have to try this for the true Onam Sadya Experience.
I call this Malabar Style Kootu Curry.

So here is the Famous Kootu Curry Recipe


healthy and yummy
 
green chili
yam cut in pieces

tempering
chana daal
coconut
mustard seeds
dried red chili
also coconut paste for the gravy and jaggery

red gram boiled with salt and turmeric

in a pan boil the yam in little water  with turmeric and green chili
also add in salt

after 10 min add coconut paste  and jaggery
along with the boiled red gram
cook for 5/7 min

after the gravy gets a boil,its time to temper
add the coconut in the end so it does not burn

add it to the gram curry,let all the water dry up


serve as a side dish with any curry
