Bengal Gram and Yam Thoran | Kerala Yam and Bengal Gram Side Dish

This is one of kerala's everyday lunch or dinner staple,its basically a sabzi which in malayalam is called thoran.

This dish tastes great when  made spicy so dont be shy on the red chili,and not to worry, adding the coconut milk powder balances out the spice in the end..

Kadala and Chena (yam) thoran can also be made into a curry by adding some water then adding coconut milk..

for the masala~onion,curry leaf,grated ginger,green chili,red chili pwd,hing and mustard seeds

bengal gram soaked overnight then boiled in salt and turmeric
yam cut into pieces and boiled with salt,turmeric and corriander pwd
Cook the masalas for 5/7 min,make sure to not brown the onions,then add in the gram and yam, stir adding some salt..add 3/4 tsp of coconut milk pwd and few drops of water...cover and cook for 10min...

eat away
